How can I support Under the Sky We Make?

I'm soooo grateful that so many of you have asked me this question! I love hearing that the book has resonated with you, and it's an honor that you're looking for ways to help share the love. Thank you!!

If you've been moved by the book, here are some suggestions for how you can help it find new readers, including writing a review, telling friends, sharing online, ordering from your local bookstore and/or library, and hosting a book club (for friends, or at work or an organization you're part of). Thank you!!

1. Write an honest book review online.

Reviews make a huge difference! The main sites for writing reviews (regardless of where you purchased the book) are:

Amazon- Click here to leave a review for UNDER THE SKY WE MAKE! (Here are step-by-step instructions)

Amazon reviews ask for:
  • a headline ("What's most important to know?") and
  • a review ("What did you like or dislike? What did you take away from the book?"), plus
  • a rating of 1-5 stars (1= hate it, 2= don't like it, 3= it's ok, 4= I like it, 5= I love it).

Goodreads - Click here to leave a Goodreads review for UNDER THE SKY WE MAKE! (Here are step-by-step instructions)

Goodreads reviews ask for:
  • Start by giving a star rating (1= hate, 5= love),
  • Then click "Write a review" just above the stars.

Audible (audiobook) - In Audible, go to Your Library-> click the three dots, then Rate and Review (or Write a Review on the desktop site).

Audible reviews ask for:
  • Stars for Overall, Performance, and Story (1= hate, 5= love)
  • "Write a review" - Headline (required) + review (for example, "What did you like or dislike, Whom would you recommend this book to, Why did you choose this rating?")

Some possible points to cover in your review
(These are just suggestions if you're stuck; please write whatever you want. Your own voice will be most powerful!)
– Was it written in a way that you as a reader could easily relate to?
– What does the book promise to deliver to the reader, and does it accomplish what it sets out to accomplish?
– Would you recommend it?
– What type of reader would enjoy the book?

P.S. The Swedish review sites include Bokus if you're keen there!

2. Personally recommend the book

... to your friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, schools, book clubs, ...

Most people find books from recommendations of someone they know personally. Sharing a recommendation or a story or something you found interesting from the book with friends in ways that feel natural to you, when they come up in conversation, is huge!

3. Share by email or social media

It fills my soul to see:
  • Photos of you (and/or your pets, kids, favorite park/bookstore/mineral collection/...)  with the book,
  • underlines/highlights of your favorite passages,
  • any of your thoughts on what you took from reading.
Please use the hashtag #UnderTheSkyWeMake.
Feel free to tag me!
Feel free to use one of the book images below.
You can help others find where to buy the book by including the place where you bought it from (local bookstores especially love social media shout-outs)!
It helps to include the link for where to buy:
  • In the US: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/665274/under-the-sky-we-make-by-kimberly-nicholas-phd/
  • In Canada: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/665274/under-the-sky-we-make-by-kimberly-nicholas-phd/9780593328170
  • Everywhere: https://linktr.ee/kimberlynicholas

One thing I've learned in my crash course on book marketing: people are WAY more likely to buy stuff from email than from social media. So if you wanted to write a quick email to a few friends who you think would enjoy the book, saying something like, "I just read this and I think you should too, here's the link to where I bought it," that would be HUGE!

4. Order from your local bookstore and/or library

It never hurts to rave about it, or mention any local connections! In my experience, most libraries have websites to order new books; most local bookstores are easiest to phone. See detailed instructions here.

5. Host a book club

I'm working on a list of discussion questions for you, and a request form to have me Zoom in for a Q&A. Stay tuned!
